Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator Blaster Review

There’s no shortage of blasters in the Nerf universe.

From collectible mini-blasters to motorized guns that blow the competition away, there are so many head-turning options to choose from that we can often forget about some of the more unique themed products that Nerf has released to date.

One of our favorites is the Nerf Doomlands 2169 line, which is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth still reeling from the effects of an asteroid impact that ravaged the land and created a lawlessness society filled with raiders and mutated beasts.

As such, you can expect that this line of blasters boasts a very different design from those both before and after its release.

In this review, we are going to look at one of the pistol options that hails from this line: the Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator blaster. If this product has caught your attention and you’re looking to purchase it, here is everything you need to know before you add it to your collection!

Style and Design

Although the Nerf Doomlands 2169 design can seem quite repetitive within the series itself, the new style can be quite exciting for those who have not used, let alone seen, a Nerf Doomlands 2169 blaster before.

Unlike other Nerf blasters, the Doomlands series features a vibrant orange that covers the entirety of the blaster, with blaster such as the Doomlands 2169 Negotiator featuring different variations of the color on its barrel

Another exciting design change is the transparent area towards the handle and back of the blaster, which gives users the ability to see the firing mechanism as you prime and fire the weapon (an extra feature that is exciting for younger Nerf users and cool for older Nerf enthusiasts).

Beyond these changes, we also like the fact that the Doomlands series is faithful to the post-apocalyptic, mechanical design that we see in many similar lines, while still maintaining its individuality by making the shapes of the guns far different than the average Nerf blaster.

For example, the Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator, while a pistol, looks much larger than the average handgun, which makes it appear more intimidating and catches the eye of opponents on the battlefield. With such a unique look, you are sure to enjoy pulling out and using your Negotiator during battle.

Ammo Capacity

Another reason why the Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator is a stand-out product amongst Nerf handguns is the fact that it has a larger ammo capacity than most other blasters of its kind.

With an 8-dart rotating barrel, users have plenty of ammo to take blast out the competition, whether they are using the Negotiator as one of their main weapons or one of the backup handguns for when they run out of ammo in a primary blaster.

While we are here, we should also mention the fact that its open face makes it easier to reload as well. The problem with many blasters with barrels is that it can be difficult to quickly feed your bullets into the barrel while avoiding the many pieces that block its entrance.

The Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator, on the other hand, features an open front so that you can place your bullets into the barrel without fail.

Firing Style and Range

If you didn’t think that the Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator could get any more unique, we are here to tell you that it still has a couple of surprises up its sleeve.

Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator Blaster

Nerf takes this product up one more notch by applying a unique priming mechanism to the blaster: hammer-action priming. If you have not yet heard of hammer-blasting, this type of priming mechanism allows users to pull back a small button on the back of the blaster with just their thumb.

Besides making it easier to prep their weapon for use, hammer-action means that you can easily carry and operate another Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator in your other hand, making double blasting a very real possibility.

After all, who wouldn’t be scared of someone with two large handguns ready to aim and fire? Additionally, the manual firing style makes for better control during battle and serves to make each one of your eight bullets count.

It should be noted that this weapon is not the best for long-range shots, so it won’t be able to compete with some of the handguns offered by the Nerf N-Strike series.

If you need the weapons for close to mid-range shots, however, then the Negotiator is certainly an effective option for your needs!

What We Like

1.    Fresh, Exciting Design - There’s nothing more exciting than having a weapon that is truly different from the rest of the blasters in your arsenal.

With a different color scheme, a transparent area in the front so that you can watch your blaster in action, and a post-apocalyptic body that blows other Nerf weapon designs out of the water, this blaster is both fun to look at and use.

2.    Improved Ammo Capacity - Small handguns with low ammo capacities have their uses but are rarely able to hold their own in a Nerf battle, operating better as backup or side weapons when the going gets tough.

Rather than falling into that category, the Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator has an 8-dart capacity that makes it a desirable piece for those who need a main handgun to use in battle or a backup blaster in the event that their primary has run out of ammo. The more ammo, the merrier!

3.    Hammer-Action Blasting - Hammer-action blasting makes it easier to prime and fire your Negotiator. With only one finger, you can quickly unload 8 bullets on your enemies without batting an eye or having to lift your other arm.

Of course, we also like this feature because it gives you the option to operate two Negotiators at the same time, which is a major advantage if you are standing against those with semi-automatic weapons or those who only have one pistol on their side.

Because of its convenience and simplicity, the hammer-action priming mechanism makes this blaster a desirable choice for anyone.

4.    Open Face for Easy Reloading - Having a blaster that has both a rotating barrel and an open face is a very important combination.

You have most likely come across blasters that have too many pieces on the front of them, only making it possible for you to load your bullets into your handgun on one side of the weapon, which will inevitably slow you down in the heat of battle.

The Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator only has a piece on the bottom to attach the barrel to the blaster’s body, leaving the rest of the area open so that you can load your blaster from the top and sides of the blaster. If you’re looking for speed and convenience when it comes to reloading your handgun, the Negotiator offers it.

What We Don’t Like

1.    May Be Too Bulky for Younger Users to Operate With One Hand - This isn’t necessarily an issue with the blaster itself but something that should be noted if you plan on purchasing this weapon for a much younger Nerf enthusiast.

Despite the fact that this is a lightweight, small blaster, its body is still rather large vertically and may be too bulky for younger users to prime with only their thumb.

This then eliminates the convenience that is supposed to come with the hammer-action priming mechanism. Keep this in mind if this is a gift for someone smaller who may not be able to operate it as easily as other children.

Our Verdict

It’s always useful to have a handgun in your blaster collection, but it is also important to pay attention to its capabilities so that you are not choosing a handgun that will prove itself impossible to use in battle.

In the case of the Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator blaster, this small but mighty option serves as the perfect handgun

Boasting features such as hammer-blasting capabilities, an 8-dart ammo capacity, and a design that allows for faster reloading and firing, we highly-recommend the Nerf Doomlands 2169 Negotiator blaster for anyone in need of a great pistol!
