Nerf Rampage N-Strike Elite Review

Last Updated on

The Nerf N-Strike Elite series has an impressive lineup of blasters that act as solid primary weapons to carry into the heat of battle.

Whether you are in need of a weapon that gives you full control over your blasting experience or a blaster that automatically rains down bullets on your opponents, you are guaranteed to find it in this popular Nerf line.

Out of all of the weapons offered in N-Strike Elite, the Rampage has made quite an impression on users by combining some popular elements of both automatic and manual weapons.

If you are looking to purchase the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster but want to know everything about it before you decide to go all-in, take a look at the comprehensive product review below to learn everything you need to know about the Rampage!

Style and Design

When it comes to almost every product in the N-Strike Elite series, you are almost always going to run into the traditional blue, orange, grey, and white color scheme that comes with the brand.

We believe, however, that the overall design of the Rampage helps to make this color scheme more attractive. Unlike many other blasters, the Rampage is long and skinny, which gives the gun a sleek look that you may not receive with blasters of the same color.

The blue sections of the product have some interesting patterns ingrained into the side as well, which adds a little more style to the subtle mechanical build of this blaster.

Overall, while the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster isn’t the most stand-out product in the Nerf universe, it is definitely visually appealing and would be a great choice for those who want an attractive, well-built blaster.

Ammo Capacity

Make no mistake, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster is a manual blaster. Why, then, is it so popular? The answer lies in how much ammo it is able to hold.

While it is common to run into blasters that carry anywhere from 6 to 12 darts, the Rampage breaks the mold by introducing a product that has a 25-dart capacity.

Besides introducing a higher dart capacity, this weapon also makes the process easier by storing all of these darts in a clip-in drum system. Whether you only have one clip or you have several clips on the side, all you have to do is refill and go!

When it comes to Nerf wars, having a larger ammo capacity makes a world of difference.

Firing Style and Range

The mystique of the Rampage goes deeper when you realize that this product uses pump-action firing to launch your bullets.

  • High capacity 25 dart drum: The Nerf Rampage blaster’s drum holds up to 25 darts and includes 25 official Nerf Elite foam darts giving you plenty of firepower for Nerf battles
  • Slam fire action for rapid dart blasting: shoot a rapid fire dart Storm at targets with the toy blaster’s slam fire action feature as you hold down the trigger and slide the handle
  • Hand powered blasting up to 90 feet (27 meters): you're in control as you prime and fire the Rampage Nerf blaster by hand; No batteries required and send darts flying up to 90 feet (27 meters)

Just pull the front handle back and forth to prime the weapon and fire when you are ready.Much like most, if not all, of the products in the Nerf N-Strike Elite series, you can expect your darts to reach distances of up to 90 feet.

It should also be mentioned that the Rampage comes with slam-fire capabilities, meaning that you can pump rapidly to unleash a small army of bullets upon your enemies.

Extra Features

The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage doesn’t come with too many extra features or attachments, but it does come with one major advantage that many other blasters lack: a jam door.

Because slam-fire is an option on this blaster and because Nerf knows that many guns are prone to jamming if they are used incorrectly, they decided to install a jam door onto the product so that you can easily reach in and take the bullet out if you run into the problem.

Considering the fact that trying to fish a bullet out of a barrel is an absolute pain, this is one of the features that may make it a more desirable blaster to some users. We should also mention that there is an attachment in the back for a shoulder stock.

Unfortunately, the Rampage does not come with this attachment when you buy the product but if you do have other products in the series or if you find that it is hard to operate without it, you may want to invest in a stock for the gun.

What We Like

1.    Improved Ammo Capacity - Having a manual gun without a clip system or with a low ammo capacity can make it hard to use during battle. With the 25-dart drum clip, you don’t have to worry about running out of bullets or having to reload constantly throughout your Nerf battle.

2.    Jam Door - Ask any Nerf user about jamming and you can guarantee that you will hear about at least one occasion where they weren’t able to operate their blaster because of a bullet that was lodged in the barrel.

Although the jam door won’t prevent bullets from getting stuck, it does make it easier to get them out when they do. If you’re someone who needs to make sure that your Nerf gun operates optimally when you are in the middle of the fight, this is an extremely useful feature.

3.    Pump-Action Firing (and Slam-Action) - Many people believe that automatic firing is the way to go, but the big issue with some of these guns is that they give you little control of how you use your ammo. If you hold the trigger down for too long, you can run out of ammo in a matter of seconds.

With pump-action firing, you choose exactly how many bullets you fire at a time and make it so that you have more control of your experience. While we’re at it, we should also applaud the slam-action capabilities of the rampage.

Having slam-action makes it easier for you to rapidly fire your bullets, which you may need to do if you find yourself surrounded by a slew of enemies. Overall, the Rampage has thought of every possible scenario and has given you the proper features to help you deal with those issues.

4.    Small Body - Despite using a dart drum, the Rampage is a relatively small weapon. When you are locked in battle or you are using a large space as your battleground, having a lightweight weapon that you can easily carry and fire makes it easier than if you were to try to carry and operate a heavier weapon. If you need something light, the Rampage is a great weapon to turn to.

What We Don’t Like

1.    The Placement of the Drum - Most Nerf weapons have their drums located at the bottom of the blaster. This may make the gun a little heavier but won’t cause too much of an issue in the long run.

Rather than sticking with this model, however, the rampage places the drum on the side of the gun. Because this gun is so small, the awkward placement of the drum can make it harder for you to keep your gun steady, especially as you use pump-action firing.

Unless you are a bit older and can handle the product with ease, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster may not be the right choice for you.

2.    Only Having the Drum Feature - Don’t get us wrong. The 25-dart drum gives you much more ammunition than you can possibly hope for in a manual weapon.

Nerf Rampage N-Strike Elite Toy Blaster with 25 Dart Drum Slam Fire & 25 Official Elite Foam Darts for Kids, Teens, & Adults (Amazon Exclusive)

The issue for those who look forward to these types of guns, however, is that you typically have to have other loaded drums nearby. If you run out of ammo and you are not ready to place another drum into your Nerf blaster, you are going to have painstakingly load all 25 darts back into the drum.

Unless you are quick at reloading and can do all of this before someone manages to shoot you with a dart. Overall, the initial flood of ammo may be worth it, but the issue of what to do afterward can be quite problematic.

3.    The Rampage Doesn’t Come With a Shoulder Stock - Having tactical rails and other attachment points is certainly useful if you plan on modifying your weapon.

  • High capacity 25 dart drum: The Nerf Rampage blaster’s drum holds up to 25 darts and includes 25 official Nerf Elite foam darts giving you plenty of firepower for Nerf battles

  • Hand powered blasting up to 90 feet (27 meters): you're in control as you prime and fire the Rampage Nerf blaster by hand; No batteries required and send darts flying up to 90 feet (27 meters)
  • Includes 25 darts: includes 25 official Nerf Elite darts that are designed for distance, tested and approved for performance and quality, and constructed of foam with flexible, hollow tips

When some weapons do not come with their attachments however, this can be kind of a bummer. In the case of the Rampage, the attachment that you would expect to be there is the shoulder stock that you would attach to that bare handle you can see at the back of the gun.

Because of the uneven weight distribution, a shoulder stock would be a very helpful addition that would make it so that you could better carry and aim the gun during battle. While not having it doesn’t affect the gun itself, we wish that Nerf would’ve included it with the gun.

Our Verdict

Overall, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rampage blaster is a solid weapon that gives you everything you need from a manual weapon. With a large ammo capacity and a firing system that allows you to have full control over your blasting experience.

While there are some issues with the build and some considerations that you will need to think about before you purchase the weapon, we believe that the Rampage is a great blaster to consider if you need a reliable, strong gun to use against your enemies.
