What Is the Difference in the Nerf Mega Series?
If you are just seeing your first Mega blaster, you may not immediately notice the difference between this line and some of the other popular lines in Nerf.
The Mega series stands out with its strikingly bright red and orange coloring that makes them pop out in comparison to other series. The real change, however, lies in the ammunition that you use with the Mega series.
Unlike any other Nerf products, Mega guns use Mega bullets, which are significantly larger than the average foam dart and feature whistling capabilities that strike fear into your opponents’ hearts!
Additionally, these larger bullets help to add extra distance to your shots and make it so that they aren’t as easily affected by external conditions.
If you want something a little different from the typical Nerf experience, the Nerf Mega series may be the right line of blasters for you!
1. Nerf N-Strike Mega BigShock Blaster
The Nerf N-Strike Mega BigShock blaster is the perfect option for Nerf users on a budget or for those who are trying to introduce a child to the world of Nerf.
The BigShock is a mini-blaster that packs the punch you would expect from much larger blasters, all in a small pistol that is easier to hold and operate.
- BigShock blaster fires Mega Darts
- Blaster fits in the palm of your hand
- Mega Whistler Darts scream as they fly
- Dart storage in the blaster
- Includes 2 Mega Darts
Featuring single-fire blasting capabilities, all you have to do to use this gun is load your Mega bullet into the open barrel at the front of the gun and pull down on the priming mechanism located at the bottom of your blaster’s handle.
Once primed, fire at will for short-range fun! Because of the gun’s simplicity, you are going to encounter very few downsides.
The only notable disadvantage that comes with this gun is that you cannot let the face of it point to the ground when it is loaded.
If you do, it is very likely that your bullet will fall out of the barrel.(However, this is a problem with almost every Nerf mini-blaster.)
While the Nerf N-Strike Mega BigShock blaster may not be for everyone, it is certainly an excellent option for those who need a stealthy backup blaster or one that can be quickly and efficiently operated!
2. Nerf N-Strike Mega HotShock Blaster
Single-shot blasters have their uses, despite what many would have you believe.
These backup pieces come in handy when you find yourself out of ammunition for your primary blaster or when there is an emergency that puts your other guns out of commission.
- Size: standard
When you find yourself in this kind of situation, you can turn to the Nerf N-Strike Mega HotShock blaster.
The Nerf N-Strike Mega HotShock blaster is a (you guessed it) single-shot blaster that has a much larger body than the previous item on this list but comes with many of the same capabilities.
To use this piece, all you have to do is load a bullet into the barrel opening at the front of the gun and pull back on the priming mechanism handle at the back of the blaster.
Once fired, you can expect your Mega dart to fly approximately 45 feet. What we really liked about this blaster was that it has a special compartment for an extra bullet.
Right above the barrel, there is a notch where you can keep an extra bullet to reload your gun once you fire the first.
Although it won’t serve as a major storage space, it can certainly save your life if you miss the first time. It also won’t fall out when you point your blaster toward the ground!
Having a backup weapon is always a smart choice in any Nerf battle. Make the Nerf N-Strike Mega HotShock blaster yours!
3. Nerf N-Strike Mega Tri-Break Blaster
While there are a lot of Mega blasters, there are very few that offer something unique to the blasting experience that is hard to find elsewhere.
When it comes to the Nerf N-Strike Mega Tri-Break blaster, that is definitely not the case.
As the name implies, the Nerf N-Strike Mega Tri-Break blaster is a gun that is capable of holding up to three darts and firing them off one at a time.
- Break-open blaster
- Break open the barrel to load darts
- Holds 3 Nerf Mega Whistler darts
- Includes blaster, 3 darts, and instructions
- Ages 8 and up
While this may not sound too different from the normal Nerf gun, it is the way that the bullets go in that is truly exciting.
Rather than having you load your ammo into the barrel openings at the front, the Tri-Break actually splits in half to reveal chambers inside where you can slip in your Mega bullets.
Once loaded, you just have to push the face back into place and pull down on the priming mechanism found on the bottom of the handle.
ou can expect to get approximately 60 feet of distance from each shot, with the overall distance decreasing as you go down each barrel.
If you’re looking for a functional blaster that adds a little something extra to your experience, the Nerf N-Strike Mega Tri-Break blaster is one of the few in the series that will give you that added boost of novelty and excitement!
4. Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega Magnus Blaster
For many, blaster attachments are great as they allow them to achieve different things in battle. From holding more bullets to getting a more accurate shot, there are a bunch of great pieces out there that get the job done.
That said, attachments can also get in the way of the blasting experience and cause issues if they break. You should get a blaster such as the Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega Magnus blaster instead!
- Magnus blaster fires Mega Darts farther than ever
- Mega Whistler Darts fly 85 feet and scream as they fly
- 3-dart capacity
- Top-loading clip lets you reload fast one-handed
- Magnus blaster works with Mega Darts only
The Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega Magnus blaster looks like any other Nerf pistol but contains a secret inside that makes it better than the single-shots we have on this list.
Deep inside the front end of the Magnus, this blaster holds a 3-dart clip system inside of it that eliminates the need for an external dart clip.
All you have to do to reveal this clip is pull back on the top end of the gun. Then, load your bullets in there one by one until all three are inside the clip.
The priming mechanism on this gun is also well-hidden but it is the same piece that reveals the internal clip. Just pull back and push forward to prepare your bullets to launch.
Because this is a Mega piece, you are going to get a mega distance on this pistol as well. You can expect your bullets to hit opponents up to an astounding 85 feet away!
While the functionality is great, there is one common problem that most buyers face. The biggest issue is that your gun could jam frequently or not fire as well over time.
This isn’t necessarily a problem with the gun but is usually attributed to the darts. Mega series ammunition is known for being larger but also for being softer than the average dart.
If you do not load your darts carefully, you can crush them over time and make them practically unusable. Be as gentle as possible when loading your gun to avoid this problem.
The element of surprise is a useful advantage in battle and no one is going to expect your pistol to have a hidden clip system inside.
For Nerf enthusiasts who are constantly tired of reloading their pistols, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega Magnus blaster can grant them some reprieve and give them some distance in the process.
5. Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega CycloneShock Blaster
Our last product on this list, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega CycloneShock blaster is arguably the best pistol own if you are looking for a fully-functional, efficient blaster to use during your Nerf battles.
Similar in build to other Nerf products like the Strongarm blaster, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega CycloneShock features a six-dart rotating barrel that will blow away the competition.
- N-Strike Elite blasters fire up to 75 feet for the ultimate in dart blaster performance
- Vortex disc blasters Bend the Rules of Battle with discs that can curve, bank, and ricochet
- FireVision sports gear glows bright, day or night, with blazing Microprism Technology
- Nerf Sports raises your game with essentials like the Pro-Grip Football and Nerfoop basketball set
- Achieve the impossible with all the most awesome gear from Nerf
What we like about this product is that it also adds an extra beam at the bottom of the gun to connect the handle to the barrel.
While this doesn’t do anything for the gun itself, it certainly adds a little style that makes the gun look even cooler!
There is enough room on the sides of the barrel to load your bullets comfortably. (They do not feature the same pop-out barrel you see in other guns like this. This is also the only notable downside of this weapon.)
Once your blaster is fully-loaded, pull back on the priming mechanism at the back of the gun to prepare your weapon to fire. Then, pull the trigger and watch your darts fly.
This pistol has the best distance out of all of the pieces on this list, reaching up to around 90 feet with each shot.
If you’re on the hunt for a Nerf blaster that can hold its own in battle, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega CycloneShock blaster will prove itself a valuable piece in your collection.
Conclusion: The 5 Best Nerf Mega Pistols
Nerf pistols are great pieces to have, regardless of whether they are your backup weapons or your primary pieces.
However, having a Mega pistol can take things one step further and eliminate some of the vulnerabilities that come with regular Nerf pistols.
