Style and Design

As you already know, the Nerf Super Soaker XP100 is a rerelease of the 1990 Super Soaker 100. The blue that makes up the bulk of this blaster is a bit brighter than the original release, but the body remains largely the same, giving you a more aesthetically appealing water gun without sacrificing the nostalgic feeling that comes with it. The water capacity is also a bit smaller in this blaster, but we’ll cover that in the next section.

The 1990 release of the Super Soaker 100 water pistol was so important for several reasons. Unlike other blasters, this blaster featured a separate pressure chamber, which was completely new to water gun designs for its time.

Overall, it’s a decent blaster, both in terms of looks and performance. While it may not be the same as blasters today, it can still be exciting for young Super Soaker enthusiasts to have as a part of their personal collection.

Water Capacity

So, exactly how much water can the Nerf Super Soaker XP100 hold? Whereas the original blaster could hold 1.5 liters, this one falls a little short of its predecessor. The Nerf Super Soaker XP100 is capable of holding up to 1.26 liters. This is still enough water to go into any water fight with confidence, so your child should have plenty of fun wielding this blaster for themselves.

Firing Style

The Nerf Super Soaker XP100 is a pump-action blaster. Simply pump the bottom piece back and forth until there’s enough pressure built-up inside of the blaster and fire at will to release a powerful jet stream at opponents!

Additional Features

There’s not much to the Nerf Super Soaker XP100, but there may be a few things worth pointing out to those who like learning more about the blasters they wish to purchase for their children.

Unlike modern blasters, the Nerf Super Soaker XP100 actually features a removable tank, which means that children will be able to more easily take off the tank, fill it up, and then reattach it to streamline the refill process. The tank on the XP100 is also made with recycled plastic, which may also be an exciting perk for parents who want their child’s toys to be more eco-friendly.

What We Like

Nerf Super Soaker XP100 review
  • Easy to Use: The Nerf Super Soaker XP100 is a relatively easy-to-use weapon, which is important if you’re purchasing this blaster for a younger player. All you have to do is remove the tank, fill it up, reattach it to the blaster, pump the blaster until it has enough pressure, and fire when you’re ready. Unlike other blasters with more difficult instructions, this may be the perfect blaster for children of any age (who are capable of wielding it, of course).

  • Retro Design: It’s always fun to see some vintage Super Soakers out on a field. However, the problem with a lot of vintage Super Soakers is that they can be difficult to find. This naturally increases their value, resulting in much larger price tags that can cost you an arm and a leg, especially if they were high-performance blasters. Fortunately, you don’t have to deal with that when you choose to purchase the Nerf Super Soaker XP100. Hasbro takes your child back to the early 90s without you having to track down and buy one that was actually made during that time. What could be better than saving money on the same look and performance?

  • Decent Water Capacity: When it comes to Super Soakers, Hasbro is always working hard to find more innovative designs that appeal to the modern player’s needs. Oftentimes, this means making bigger, better blasters that can hold and deliver more water. The Nerf Super Soaker XP100 only comes with a 1.26-liter water capacity. This might not be as impressive as some of the other blasters you can find on today’s market, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s not still as fun to use. Overall, this should be enough water to help your child participate in the fun without feeling like they’re missing out because they constantly have to refill their blaster.

  • Lightweight and Slim: Are you shopping for a younger player? If so, a lower water capacity and a slimmer design are major advantages. Blasters that are difficult to wield or difficult to carry across an environment can make the whole experience a lot less fun. This makes the Nerf Super Soaker XP100 a more child-friendly weapon for those who are shopping for younger or smaller players who want to join in, even if they can’t hang onto some of the blasters that their older friends or siblings are able to handle.

What Could Be Improved

  • Known to Leak: Now, one of the big disadvantages of this blaster is the fact that it’s known to leak. Even though this is a rerelease, it doesn’t seem that Hasbro addressed this issue in the new version. When pressure builds up in the Nerf Super Soaker XP100, water has been known to leak out of the tip, the chamber, and any other opening it can reach. It doesn’t pour out, but it does dribble. This doesn’t drastically affect its performance, but it’s something to keep in mind when you’re looking for a new Super Soaker or comparing it to some of the other Super Soakers we’ve covered here on Dart Dudes.

Our Verdict

Is the Nerf Super Soaker XP100 a good blaster to purchase for your child? While there are some minor issues with leaking, it’s not a bad blaster overall. Perfect for younger or smaller children, the Nerf Super Soaker XP100 is a piece of history that’s easy to use, comes with a decent supply of water, and is lightweight and slim. Consider this a primary or a side blaster for Super Soaker enthusiasts of all ages!
