The Nerf Ultra Five is a lightweight, compact blaster that truly embodies the qualities most Nerf enthusiasts look for in a Nerf handgun.
Rather than opting for a streamlined boy that encompasses the barrel, you’ll find that you have a bulkier body that encompasses the internal chamber and provides you with extra support during play.
Simply put, the Nerf Ultra Five is a wonderfully built Nerf blaster that will make any Nerf collection better.
Ultra Darts Capacity
Despite being called the Nerf Ultra Five, this blaster only offers support for four darts at a time. This isn’t necessarily so low that you can’t use your blaster, but it isn’t ideal for most environments.

However, there are some functionality improvements that help to balance out this low ammo capacity, which we will cover further down in this guide.
As it is with the rest of the series, you’ll find that the darts on this blaster offer the lightweight foam, innovative flight tip, and aerofin technology to help your darts fly farther and faster once they’ve been launched from your blaster.

Firing Style and Range
As you may have guessed, the Nerf Ultra Five uses a pull-back priming mechanism at the top of the blaster. This priming mechanism is dual purpose as you must pull back on the top to reveal the internal clip, which allows for more seamless loading and reloading on the go.
Just pull back your blaster’s top, push it forward, and fire at will! This blaster also packs the power and range offered in the Nerf Ultra Series, for which all blasters are said to fire their darts a distance of 120 feet.
Additional Features
The one most interesting feature on this blaster is not a functional feature but a design element. Rather than leaving the handle open as they do on most blasters, Nerf decided to add an extra piece on the Nerf Ultra Five that offers slots for your fingers to fit into as you hold and fire this gun.

This piece makes it so that you feel like you have a more stable grip on your gun and can wield it more confidently out on the battlefield. This isn’t a major addition, but it does make the blaster look more exciting and adds some ergonomic support for users of all ages.
What We Like
- Great Power and Range for a Handgun: There’s something to be said about the Nerf Ultra line when it comes to the power and range that it offers in this series. Despite being a compact, lightweight blaster, the Nerf Ultra Five fires wonderfully with it's tactical rail and gives you exactly what you need to navigate any environment confidently.
- Ease of Use: Internal clips seem to be a favorite feature for the Nerf Ultra line, and for good reason. It makes using this blaster very easy. Just pull back on the priming mechanism, load your darts in, and get ready to blast your enemies away!
- Extra Grip: The small plastic piece at the bottom isn’t necessary, but it makes gripping the weapon and knowing that it won’t slip from your fingers extremely helpful. If you know a player who’s constantly dropping their Nerf guns, this minor feature is a must-have.
What We Don’t Like
- Ammo Capacity May Be Low for Some Users: Before we dive into this section, it’s important to note that these properties are not a drawback of the weapon itself, but just some things to note if you anticipate purchasing the blaster.
One of these items is the low ammo capacity. The internal clip system makes this low ammo capacity easier to navigate, but four darts may still be too little for some players. Keep this in mind when you’re shopping for the Nerf Ultra Five. - Priming Mechanism Can Be Difficult for Younger Players: Younger players can have difficulty with the priming mechanism on some blasters, especially when they’re like the one you’ll find on this Nerf gun. If you’re buying a blaster for a younger player, this is another consideration to make before you decide to buy the Nerf Ultra Five.
