Besides giving you more control over your ammo usage, many of these blasters come with exciting new designs that further enhance your battle experience and make you look more intimidating on the battlefield.

One of our favorite pump-action Nerf blasters is the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 blaster, which offers a unique design while still maintaining the quality performance that you expect Nerf products to carry.

Style and Design

Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2×4 Review

With a light, short body that is reminiscent of a sawn-off shotgun, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 is one of the lighter pump-action blasters on the market, which goes a long way in performance during battle and is something that we highly value in Nerf products.

Why is it called the 2x4? Aptly named, this blaster features a long vertical face that holds two rows of ammunition with four Nerf darts in each row. This unique design allows it to compete with some other similar weapons that Nerf offers.

In addition to this refreshing change in the blaster’s design, the Elite Rough Cut 2x4 seamless blends the traditional color scheme of the Nerf N-Strike series while making the gun look more exciting with pieces cut out of the body to reveal more of the weapon’s internal components, a handle that looks surprisingly realistic, and a short back end that allows for easier handling during battle.

If you are in need of an efficient pump-action blaster that challenges the status quo, you are guaranteed to take a liking to the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 blaster.

Ammo Capacity

We usually wait to unveil the ammo capacity until this section of the review but seeing as it is an important part of the design, you already know that you are capable of loading and firing up to 8 darts at a time.

Given the fact that most manual weapons will hold fewer darts than this, this is a fairly good ammo capacity that will allow you to use your 2x4 as a primary weapon or as a reliable side weapon in battle.

NERF N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2X4 Blaster

While we are on the topic of ammo capacity, we should also mention the ease of reloading that this blaster offers. With a completely open front, you don’t have to struggle with loading your darts into your gun.

All you have to do is pop them in, prime your weapon, and fire at your weapons at your enemy. Given that there are only 8 darts in your Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 blaster, you don’t have to worry about shooting all of your darts and then having to take even more time to go through the reloading process.

Unlike many open-faced weapons of the same nature, users were surprised that the darts didn’t fall out if they accidentally pointed the gun towards the ground.

Although you will experience a problem if you are swinging or jerking the gun around and pointing it towards the ground, the improved grip on loaded darts is another advantage that this open blaster has on its competitors.

Firing Style and Range

We value the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 blaster’s pump-action capabilities because of the fact that manual firing styles offer you more control over your ammo.

NERF N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2X4 Blaster

In guns without clip systems that use motorized blasting, you can easily run out of darts before you are ready, leaving you vulnerable to oncoming attacks. With the 2x4, pump-action blasting lets you use your darts mindfully and makes it easier to reload your blaster when you do run out of darts.

Because this blaster is featured in the Nerf N-Strike line, you can expect your darts to reach distances of up to 75 feet. Whether you are using your 2x4 for close-range, mid-range, or long-range combat, you will be able to take your opponents down at all distances!

Extra Features

The only extra feature available on this weapon is the tactical rail installed on top of the weapon. If you like to customize your weapon with extra ammo storage, scopes, or other helpful technology, this may be a necessary addition that you will need when you finally carry the 2x4 into battle.

What We Like

1.   Unique and Fun Design: While the Nerf N-Strike series features the same color scheme, they do their best to vary their weapon designs and it shows with the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4.

With its unique body cut and blasting experience packed into such a tiny product, this blaster truly stands out from other similar weapons, which makes it an excellent choice for those who need a fun yet refreshing manual blaster in their arsenal.

2.  Shoots Multiple Darts at a Time: The concept of shooting multiple darts at a time is by no means a new feature in the Nerf universe, but it can be hard to find a blaster that does it well.

Although it has been reported that the gun will sometimes shoot out more than two darts at a time, you still have the ability to fire multiple darts at your opponent and at distances that are quite impressive. If you want to be a true challenger on the battlefield, the 2x4 is a great weapon to carry into battle.

3.  Small Body Allows for Easy Blasting and Movement: Let’s face it; while large Nerf guns are exciting, trying to tote these massive blasters across your chosen battlegrounds can be challenging.

It also tires you out before you actually join the action, which is a major disadvantage for those who are going against multiple players and don’t have time to hide and rest.

The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 blaster, on the other hand, features the same performance that you would expect from a larger blaster in a compact product.

This way, you can easily carry and use your weapon without feeling exhausted from the experience. In our opinion, light primary weapons are the best for large Nerf battles.

4.    Great Range for the Product: The problem with many Nerf blasters that attempt to add functions like those found in the 2x4 is that it often comes at the expense of performance.

For example, blasters that fire several darts at a time may sound fun, but there is always the possibility that you will end up with a gun that will only fire darts a couple of feet away as a result.

Considering the fact that the 2x4 performs as advertised and is able to reach distances of up to 75 feet, we recommend this blaster for those who need a special weapon that still packs a punch.

5.  Darts Don’t Fall Out Easily: As we stated earlier in the article, many open-faced Nerf blasters make it difficult for you to keep your darts in the gun.

If you happen to point your blaster towards the ground, the darts will fall out, which is a major inconvenience if you happen to be in an enemy’s sight. With the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4, you can rest assured that your darts are going to stay in the chamber (as long as you are not being too rough).

What We Don’t Like

1.  Needs to Be Handled With Care: Many users are happy with the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 blaster. The problem? Many others state that their product has broken after extensive use.

This can be due to the fact that pump-action weapons are rather delicate and require the handler to be extra cautious with how they prime and fire the weapon. If you are too rough with your weapon or if you are not pumping correctly, there is always the possibility that the blaster can respond by breaking, which is no fun for anyone.

When you begin using your 2x4, make sure that you are not wildly pumping or being too rough with the moving pieces. If you take care of your blaster, it should last a while!

Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2×4 Review: Our Verdict

Overall, the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 is a truly impressive weapon. Despite the fact that it utilizes features like pump-action blasting and dual-firing capabilities, this blaster is well-constructed and performs excellently, which is something that can be difficult to find in similar Nerf blasters.

Although there is the potential for breakage if you are too rough with it, this shouldn’t be too much of a problem seeing as it is a manual weapon that only carries so many darts at a time.

If you are looking for a reliable weapon that comes with useful features and a formidable design, we highly recommend trying out the Nerf N-Strike Elite Rough Cut 2x4 blaster.
